Garmin offers three different types of traffic services in North America: Garmin Traffic, Live Traffic, and HD Digital Traffic. All three traffic services receive traffic data from Navteq. More information about each of these services can be found below:
Garmin Traffic (formerly known as 3D Traffic)
Requires the use of a compatible traffic receiver or traffic antenna cable
Only available within designated coverage areas
Traffic data refreshes every 5 minutes
Traffic information is basic. For example, "Slow traffic ahead," "Accident ahead," "Construction ahead," etc...
Live Traffic (formerly known as 3D Live Traffic)
Used with our nuLink! and LIVE devices
Also available as a premium Smartphone Link subscription on your mobile phone
Only available within designated coverage areas
Traffic data refreshes every 2 minutes and receives more than 1,000 messages every update cycle
Provides the same type of information you see with Garmin Traffic
HD Digital Traffic (formerly known as 3D Digital Traffic)
Requires the use of the GTM 60 traffic receiver with a compatible device
Only available within designated coverage areas
Traffic data refreshes as often as every 30 seconds - that's up to 20 times more often than other analog traffic receivers
Provides more detailed descriptions of traffic alerts. For example, "Stalled car in left lane," "Long-term construction ahead," "Debris in roadway," etc...
Provides basic weather information including current temperature, 6 day forecast, and more details
Only available on the nuvi 2407, 2408, 2507, 2508, 2707, 2708, 3507, and 3508 series
Some devices will already come packaged with one of the above traffic services. Not all devices are compatible with traffic, so check the material that came with your device or Garmin's website for compatibility. More information about these services can be found here: www.garmin.com/traffic
